Another day another accusation about Beyonce stealing something. Belgian choreographer, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker is accusing Beyonce of plagiarizing her dance moves for her latest video “Countdown.”
The choreographer has come out against Beyonce saying “I didn’t know anything about this. I’m not mad, but this is plagiarism,” she said. “This is stealing. They took pieces from Achterland and Rosas danst Rosas. It’s a bit rude, I must say. What’s rude about it is that they don’t even bother about hiding it. They seem to think they could do it because it’s a famous work.” People have commented that she should feel flattered that Beyonce would want to emulate her work. This is the 3rd time this year Beyonce has been accused of stealing dance moves or performances from others. The first when she premiered her “Run The World (Girls)” video and the second would be when she did her “Run The World (Girls)” performance at the Billboard Awards earlier this year. I think its stupid to think any artists is coming up with anything original. Everyone draws inspiration from somewhere. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
When I watched the clip you posted with the originals interspersed, it seems like Beyonce was doing an homage rather than trying to pass the moves off as her own. I wonder if B had come out and said, “My new video is a not to the work of Anesaseeee Whateverhernameis,” if the woman would be flattered instead of pissed.
Wait. is that a man? On the tall dark skinned background dancer, I’m pretty sure I saw a goatee…
