BET will be airing it’s annual awards show tomorrow at 8/7c. The show is being hosted by Samuel L. Jackson. Many performances are in store for the night from Nicki Minaj, Usher, Chris Brown, Cissy Houston, Yolanda Adams, D’Angelo, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Big Sean, Wale, the entire G.O.O.D. Music crew, Y’Anna Crawley, Amber Bullock, Jessica Reedy, Melanie Fiona and 2 Chainz. There is also a Whitney Houston tribute instore for the night that BET’s Stephen Hill believes will bring “closure that people will feel, and … haven’t had elsewhere.”
Oh I CAN’T WAIT FOR TOMORROW. It’s going to be pure comedy. This is the only thing that I look forward to on BET because it is always a HOT MESS and this year will be no different. I just don’t understand how you have a year to put on a production and it always turns out terrible. I mean the sound is always bad, people never know where their markers are or what they are supposed to be saying. All a mess.
Think Like A Man is getting a sequel. Deadline is reporting that the writers, Keith Merryman and David A. Newman, who wrote the hit film, have been hired to start working on the follow-up. The film which wasn’t expected to make a lot of money opened at #1 when it was released in April and has since grossed $91 million. The film starred many people from Gabrielle Union, Jerry Ferrera, Micheal Ealy to Meagan Good, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Hart and Romany Malco. No stars announced yet for the follow up but Steve Harvey, author of the best-selling book the film is based on, will be returning as an executive producer.
Why are they making a sequel to this? Yes the movie was good and it was successful but that still doesn’t mean there needs to be a sequel. I think they did a good job of ending it where there is no need for a sequel. I hate when movies that studios and Hollywood don’t believe will make money do and so they think they can make the magic happen twice. Guess what rarely does that happen so they just need to stop because I can name on one hand the amount of sequels that were better than the originals.
That’s what they want us to believe in the new trailer for Alex Cross, the James Patterson adaptation in which Tyler Perry will pick up the role that Morgan Freeman portrayed in Kiss The Girls and Along Came The Spider. This latest adaptation also stars Matthew Fox, John C McGinley, Edward Burns and Rachel Nichols. The film is a reboot and goes back to the younger days of Alex Cross and involves a case where a family member is murdered by a sadist killer (Fox) who likes to torture his victims.
Yeah I don’t believe him as an action man. This looks like your standard cop action movie which means very generic with nothing new to show you and extremely predictable. I’m glad this isn’t a written/directed/starring Perry movie and just one that he stars in because then it would really have been terrible. I watched Freeman’s Kiss The Girls and Along Came A Spider and I thought Kiss The Girls was a pretty standard movie but was made better by the great acting from Morgan Freeman (Along Came A Spider was pretty ehh). Freeman’s movies were a lot slower and so there was time for good dialogue and a chance to see killer and detective trade barbs and try to one up each other versus this new version that just looks like they put in a bunch of stunts to hide the fact that their star is a bad actor.
This new adaptation originally was given to Idris Elba until the film changed writers and directors and so they decided that what the project was missing was Tyler Perry. Lol. Can you imagine what it could have been with the first writer and Elba on board? Probably not what it looks like now but I will still give this movie a chance because I like all the supporting cast and they are actually pretty good at their jobs. Alex Cross opens everywhere October 19, 2012.
Ann Curry confirmed today what has been the worst kept secret ever that she will no longer be on NBC’s Today show couch after 15 years. Rumors have been circulating for the past week about the Today show host exit. She will now be an Anchor at Large and National and International Correspondent for NBC News and do global stories, primetime specials and reports for Today, Nightly News, Rock Center, Dateline and MSNBC. Savannah Guthrie is said to be a shoe-in for her spot on the couch but nothing has been announced yet.
They pretty much fired her and they are trying to make it seem like she’s getting a better gig and she’s clearly not. It sucks that they are blaming the ratings decline of the show on her. Today has always dominated in the morning show ratings and have been on the downward slide for some years now with ABC’s Good Morning America even beating them at times in the past few months. I don’t believe this is her fault. I think the ratings haven’t been that great since Katie Couric left and that a lot of people just aren’t watching as much daytime tv. The ratings for most daytime shows have been on a downward slope for sometime. Here is the video of her farewell. It’s pretty sad but she needs to put a smile back on that face since she’ll be pocketing the rest of the $20 million from her contract to not work for the show.
Brave is the new Pixar film about Merida (Kelly Macdonald), the impetuous daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson) who is determined to carve her own path in life. Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the lords of the land, which inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom. She then turns to a crazy old Witch (Julie Walters) for help and is granted an ill-fated wish. The consequences of her wish force Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.
This movie is so cute. I really enjoyed watching it. I have a thing for female red heads. I don’t know what it is from Julianne Moore, and Julia Roberts, to Emma Stone (she’s blond now but she’ll be back to red), I just love them. And so when I saw Merida with that wild mess of red hair, I knew I would love her. I didn’t really know what to expect from the movie. The first half of it is a little misleading. It’s all about Merida and her parents trying to marry her off, but in the second of it gets to the real heart of the movie which is this mother/daughter relationship. It’s just really great to watch. I even shed a little tear towards the end. I think its great for everyone to see. Granted is it the best Pixar movie? No, but it’s still a great story with lovely characters. Check out Brave in theaters now.
So much going on in the tv and movie world this week. Here are some from this week.
Arsenio Hall Returning To Late Night – Whoop, Whoop, Whoop Whoop. Arsenio Hall is going to get his own late-night talk show again. CBS Television Distribution is developing a new syndicated talk show for the comedian to debut next fall. It has been almost 20 years since the Arsenio Hall Show ended and we hadn’t really seen much of the comedian lately. Arsenio was recently seen on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice, where he was crowned the winner over former American Idol runner up, Clay Aiken. In interviews leading up to the finale of Celebrity Apprentice, Hall made many statements about wanting to return to late-night. Clearly someone was taking note. True Blood’s Season 5 premiered last Sunday and it did not disappoint. It picked up from where it left off last season with Tara’s brains on the floor, Debbie dead, and Bill and Eric killing Nan. There were so many crazy things in this episode that in hindsight are just a normal day in Bon Temps but as I was watching all I could say was wow. The scene with Eric and his “sister” was so ridiculous. I was like wasn’t just pinning over Sookie like 3 scenes ago and what is it with Jason Stackhouse that everyone is so in love with? He has to be the dumbest character on the show. It’s like he walks in the room and chicks start taking their clothes off. It’s quite hilarious.
I know a lot of people hate Tara but I like her. When I saw them shoot her last season, I just thought Rutina Wesley was done on the show. I didn’t think they would be bringing her back because I mean literally her brains were all over Sookie’s kitchen. I didn’t think that she could be made into a vampire. It’s predictable but I just didn’t see it happening. Now that it has and her maker is Pam, I am looking forward to Rutina Wesley and Kristin Bauer working together. I think this will give Tara a lot to work with and make her not so much of a victim. It might also lighten her up a bit because Pam is funny as hell. I think Lafayette and her have the funniest lines. It’s gonna be a crazy season with the Authority, Russell escaping and Terry’s craziness coming to the forefront. I can’t wait.
Best line from the premiere. When Sookie questions Pam’s team spirit in helping them turn Tara, she replies, “I am wearing a Wal-Mart sweatsuit for y’all. If that’s not a demonstration of team spirit, I don’t know what is.”
Episode 2 airs tonight at 9/8c on HBO. Here is a promo.
Season 2 of Awkward Black Girl premiered tonight on the iamOTHER Youtube channel and I’m glad it is back. Watch episode 1: The Sleepover now.
Now that you have watched, I have to say that this episode was about a 5 on a 1-10 scale. There were some great lines between J and white J and also the dream sequence with Fred and A talking about J were pretty funny but other than that it was just a standard episode to me. There wasn’t enough white J, Cece or Nina. These 3 sometimes make the show for me. There was also some really bad acting happening in this episode. The girl at the front who thought J was gay is just really not good. Hopefully she isn’t on there much throughout the season. Also I need Fred to get a new hairstyle. What is happening there? It looks a mess. Glad the series is back and I hope future episodes are better. Episode 2 airs Thursday, July 16 on the iamOther channel.
