MTV Video Music Award Nominations

The MTV Video Music Awards nominations were announced last week and Rihanna and Drake lead the pack with 5 nominations each. Rihanna is up for Video of the Year, Best Female Video, Best Pop Video with “We Found Love” and Best Choreography and Best Visual Effects with “Where Have You Been?

Katy Perry is right behind them with four nominations. Beyonce, Coldplay, Frank Ocean and M.I.A have 3 nominations each. I heart Frank Ocean and I’m happy for his nominations but it just feels like MTV just wanted to give him some reason to show up to the show, which he probably won’t. Kelly Clarkson – Dark Side Video

Yes, just caught the newish video to her new single, “Darkside” from her latest album Stronger. Watch the video now.

It’s so simple. I like it. Wearing little makeup in the simple and intimate video, Clarkson tackles topics like bullying, weight issues and war and shows some of the darker sides of  human behavior. She puts a positive spin on it though and turns it into a positive message at the end.  Kelly looks great. Love a minimalist makeup with the simple pink outfit. Not feeling the green multi-colored outfit. Overall good song and good video.

Videos, Videos, Videos

Not one to watch many music videos but there are a few that I recently watched that I wanted to comment on.

John Mayer – “Shadow Days”

“Shadow Days”  is the first single from Mayer’s new album, Born and Raised, out May 22nd. I love Mayer’s music. He’s just so great. I like this song and the video is minimalist at best which I also like. Sometimes you don’t need a lot to tell a story with visually about the song. I’m sad though because this will probably be it for the promotion of this album as he has had to cancel his tour because of some problems with his vocal cords.

Rihanna – “Where Have You Been”

This song is one of my favs from Rihanna’s Talk That Talk album and I didn’t know it was going to be a single but it makes sense. This video is just giving me EVERYTHING right now. I love it. She’s actually dancing in it for more than a couple of seconds and its not dutty wining. There is actual true choreography. Granted it is fairly simple but this Rihanna, do yall remember the “Pon De Replay” video? Ok so lets applaud some effort lol. Although that is like getting a medal for last place but whatever. I have to get her on her little belly dancer hip movement though. Hahah she tried but it was so stiff. Regardless this is going on repeat along with the “We Found Love” video.

Beyonce – Dance For You Video

Beyoncé has released yet another video for her new single, “Dance For You.” At least I think it’s a new single. She releases a new single every other week so I don’t know. Whatever new video by Beyoncé. Check it out.

This song is one that comes on the deluxe version of her latest album “4.” I liked this song when I heard it on the album. Its nothing spectacular but it’s definitely a sexy song and Beyoncé delivered it with an even sexier video. This was clearly shot pre-baby bump. It looks like she was inspired by 1940s film noir. The entire video is her doing some nice chair work. She did this better though when she was with Destiny’s Child for their “Cater To You” video. This video and all other video releases can be found on her new concert DVD, “Elements of 4:Live at Roseland” which is in stores November 29th.

Video: Beyonce – “Party” Remix

I know this the third Beyonce video I have posted in as many weeks and some of you are thinking “every time I come here she’s got another Beyonce video up, is she obsessed or something?” and I would answer yes but don’t blame me for her having put out 3 videos in the last month ok. Anyway Beyonce has released the video to her fourth single,”Party” from her album, 4. This version is a remix that features J. Cole. Andre 3000’s verse has been removed for some reason. Enjoy. Rihanna – We Found Love Video

Rihanna unleashed the video to her first single,”We Found Love”, from her upcoming album, Talk That Talk. The video was shot in Ireland and co-stars her rumored new boyfriend, a London boxer/model, Dudley O’Shaughnessy. Enjoy or not lol. Continue reading Rihanna – We Found Love Video

Yep, Another Beyonce Video

She gave the teaser for this last week after she released her “Countdown” video and now the finished product has been released. Here it is. “Love On Top.” Enjoy.

I like this video. Its got that 90’s R&B group feel from this video. Very New Edition. People are already saying she stole from them and did she get permission. Why does she have to get their permission to emulate something? You see in this one she wasn’t that far along because she’s dancing a whole hell of a lot more than she did in the “Countdown” video. The video is very simple. Nothing special really. Love the outfits. This chick’s body does not quit. Just ridiculous.

Beyonce Stole “Countdown” Choreography??

Another day another accusation about Beyonce stealing something. Belgian choreographer, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker is accusing Beyonce of plagiarizing her dance moves for her latest video “Countdown.”

The choreographer has come out against Beyonce saying “I didn’t know anything about this. I’m not mad, but this is plagiarism,” she said. “This is stealing. They took pieces from Achterland and Rosas danst Rosas. It’s a bit rude, I must say. What’s rude about it is that they don’t even bother about hiding it. They seem to think they could do it because it’s a famous work.” People have commented that she should feel flattered that Beyonce would want to emulate her work. This is the 3rd time this year Beyonce has been accused of stealing dance moves or performances from others. The first when she premiered her “Run The World (Girls)” video and the second would be when she did her “Run The World (Girls)” performance at the Billboard Awards earlier this year. I think its stupid to think any artists is coming up with anything original. Everyone draws inspiration from somewhere. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
