TV Stuff (Cougar Town, Downton Abbey and More)

Boss Cancelled By Starz – The drama lead by Kelsey Grammer has been cancelled. It recently ended its second season recently and will be not coming back for a third season. “After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with ‘Boss. We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, (series creator) Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV,” said the network. The show was a generally liked by critics  but not so much with audiences. It did bring Kelsey Grammer a Golden Globe award. It’s a little surprising that they cancelled the show  since they renewed the show for a second season before the numbers were in for the first season.

Dirty Jobs Cancelled – Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs has been cancelled. This is the second big cancellation from the network after American Chopper was cancelled last week. The show ended its eighth and last season in September.

Chevy Chase leaving Community – The actor has had a pretty rocky relationship with the show. There was the much publicized feud with series creator, Dan Harmon, production being interrupted because Chase was not happy with what was being shot and his use of the N-word on set when he was making a point about where his racist character was headed. Most of Community’s 4th and possibly last season has already been shot with 2 episodes left. Chase will be in all except the final 2. Community premieres this coming mid-season on February 7th, 2013 on NBC.

New Promos for Smash and Cougar TownSmash and Cougar Town return at the beginning of next year and they just released some new promos. Looking forward to an Ellis-less Smash and all the drama that comes with this show. Also looking forward to the wine drinking cul-de-sac crew on Cougar Town.

Cougar Town returns on its new home, TBS, on January 8th, 2013.

Smash returns to NBC on February 5th, 2013.

Downton Abbey Renewed – Downton Abbey will be back for a fourth season. Season 3 just finished airing in the UK and will premiere in the States January 6th, 2013 on PBS.  PBS will air a recap of season 2 and a preview of the upcoming season 3 on Sunday, November 25th at 8/7c.

Dallas Icon Larry Hagman Dead at 81

So sad. I know he had been sick but they said his cancer was in remission. I guess it came back again. He was one of the reasons I was especially loving the new Dallas on TNT.

TVLine

Larry Hagman Dies at 81TV icon Larry Hagman, best known for playing the iconic J.R. Ewing on both CBS’ original Dallas and TNT’s current incarnation, passed away on Friday at Medical City Dallas hospital from cancer complications. He was 81.

Hagman — shortly after TNT’s Dallas update was announced in summer 2011 — revealed that he was being treated for “a very common and treatable form of cancer,” later specified as Stage 2 throat cancer. After enduring chemotherapy and radiation treatment, Hagman announced in mid-2012. “I beat that thing. I am in remission now. All good!”

Dallas is currently in production on its second season, scheduled to premiere on Jan. 28, 2013. Hagman had filmed six episodes.

“Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most,” the Hagman family said in a statement to the Dallas Morning News. “Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in…

Production on Luther Season 3 Begins

Partners, 666 Park Avenue and Last Resort Cancelled

Cancellations are afoot. The ax was dropped on 3 new shows Friday. CBS cancelled new comedy, Partners and ABC cancelled 666 Park Avenue and Last Resort.

Partners is the second show cancelled by CBS this season. They were the first network to cancel a show this fall with the critically and audience panned, Made In Jersey. Partners seemed like it would be ok. It was created by creators of  Will & Grace and that show was good so I thought this one had potential. Plus Michael Urie was in it so I was up for it.  The show premiered to 7 million and steadily went down from there. The post How I Met Your Mother spot seems to have bad luck for new comedies on CBS. The last 3 shows to premiere in that 8:30/7:30c timeslot (Mad Love, Accidentally On Purpose, Welcome To The Captain) have all been cancelled. CBS has taken Partners off the schedule and will more than likely dumb the rest of the episodes that have been produced on Saturday night.

666 Park Avenue just never took off at all. It premiered to 7 million viewers and hit a series low of under 4 million with the latest episode that aired last Sunday. I watched the premiere and it was ok. I wanted it to be better as it has a pretty great cast on the show, but it just didn’t and I have 5 aired episodes still unwatched on my dvr. Last Resort also got cancelled by ABC. The show was a critical favorite but suffered from low ratings. The show was good but I it just didn’t click with me. I tried to stick to the show but after 4 episodes I was pretty much done with it. Poor Andre Braugher though. He just can’t catch a break. His last show, Men of A Certain Age was cancelled by TNT last year because of low ratings. ABC will air the rest of 666 and Last Resort‘s 13 episodes.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Review *Spoilers*

Guest post by Christy Erving.

Heading into the movie theater on a pretty mundane Saturday evening in October, I didn’t have many expectations for Perks. The previous weekend, I attempted to convince a few of my friends to watch the movie with me, but we ended up seeing Taken 2 instead: very disappointing. Luckily, I had the complete opposite experience at Perks, which I ventured to the theater to see soloA coming-of-age novel by Stephen Chbosky adapted into a feature film, The Perks of Being A Wallflower chronicles the freshman year of a somewhat troubled high schooler, Charlie (Logan Lerman; Percy Jackson & The Olympians), as he struggles to develop meaningful friendships and break through some of his social awkwardness. This is the perfect formula for a great movie…well, it is for me. I love “underdog” stories, so I was hooked as soon as I witnessed the first scene of Charlie eating alone in the cafeteria his first day of high school. What began as just another one of those typical high school “geek-to-chic” storylines (I’m thinking Mean Girls or Grease, which actually happen to be movies I adore) developed into a touching story about a young man who makes strides each day to fight the demons of the sexual exploitation his aunt inflicted upon him for years and the guilt of his aunt’s death when she was killed in a sudden car accident.

Charlie is fortunate to meet some awesome friends during his first year of high school including Patrick (Ezra Miller; City Island, Royal Pains), Mary Elizabeth (Mae Whitman; Parenthood), and Sam (Emma Watson; Harry Potter), who later becomes his love interest. Their friendship circle endures a series of highs and lows, and his friends are also dealing with some seriously heavy, albeit realistic, issues, which make this a must-see-movie. There are multiple layers of storytelling, which is what I absolutely loved. Everyone had their own set of issues, but their friends always looked out for them in the long-run. I don’t want to give away too much, so I won’t delve into the other storylines.

The acting all-around was brilliant, but I truly believe that Miller and Lerman deserve Golden Globe and Oscar nods. Miller almost steals the show, delivering a moving performance full of heart-wrenching gusto. Can I just say that I think this might be the best movie I’ve seen all year?!

Other actors and actresses you might recognize from the film include Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), Paul Rudd (I Love You Man, Wanderlust), Kate Walsh(Private Practice) (she’s looking fab and aging well!), Dylan McDermott (American Horror Story), and Joan Cusack (Shameless).

Not sure if the movie is still playing in theaters, but it was worth my ten bucks. If it’s no longer in theaters, you’ve got to catch it on Redbox. 🙂

American Horror Story Renewed for Season 3, Jessica Lange to Return… But Who’ll She Play?

Ughh. Why is this back? This season is not that good. I like Ryan Murphy but he is doing too much and all of his shows suffer because of it.

TVLine

American Horror Story RenewedAmerican Horror Story is far from done haunting FX.

The network Thursday announced that Ryan Murphy‘s scary drama will be back for a third season next year.

Even better, Jessica Lange — who played Southern mama Constance in Season 1 and is Asylum‘s Sister Jude — will return in the show’s next incarnation.

Asylum ends its run on Jan. 23; the new 13-episode season will begin production this summer and bow in Fall 2013.

There are no details yet on Lange’s role or where the series, which switches location and era each season, will take place. Hit the comments with your suggestions/predictions about where Murphy’s gang of ghosts and ghouls should end up!

Netflix and AMC Try To Resurrect “The Killing”

Why are they trying to bring back this show? The first season was good, the second not so much. Why do we need a 3rd?

TVLine

This story is taking on more twists and turns than the Rosie Larsen murder mystery.

Three months after TVLine first broke the news that Netflix was in early talks to resurrect AMC’s cancelled serial thriller The Killing, the ink on the deal is nearly dry.

But in a surprising twist, the new season would actually air on AMC first, per our sister site Deadline.

SCOOP | Fresh Spoilers on Once Upon a Time, Scandal, NCIS and More in Matt’s Inside Line!

The pact would call for AMC to share the cost of a third season with Netflix, with the cabler getting first crack at airing the new episodes. This mirrors the similar (and successful) split-window arrangement NBC and DirecTV had with Friday Night Lights.

In an interview over the summer, leading man Joel Kinnaman (who, like co-star Mireille Enos, is already signed on for Season 3) told TVLine that…
