FOX New Series Trailers

Here are a couple of teaser trailers of some of FOX’s new series coming next fall. Their new slate looks pretty good. Which of these make it to May 2014? Any guesses?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine – Starring Andy Sandberg (Saturday Night Live), André Braugher (Men of A Certain Age, Last Resort), Terry Crews (White Chicks, Expendables), and Melissa Fumero (CSI:NY). The show is a workplace comedy about what happens when a hotshot detective gets a new Captain with a lot to prove.

André Braugher is one hard-working man. It’s a testament to his talent that he can get work so quickly. For some reason people never watch his shows. His last 2 shows (Men of A Certain Age (I still miss this show) and Last Resort) were cancelled pretty quickly. Hopefully this one sticks. From watching this trailer it looks pretty funny. I like those comedies where the straight man plays against the goofball so I’m sure I’ll like this. Brooklyn Nine-Nine will air Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30c.

Rake – Starring Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine, The Kennedys), Necar Zadegan (24, Emily Owens, M.D), John Ortiz (Silver Linings Playbook), Miranda Otto (Lord of The Rings Trilogy, War of The Worlds).  Keegan  Deane, one of life’s great addicts, a brilliant and frustratingly charming criminal defense attorney, whose chaotic and self-destructive personal life often gets in the way of his professional one. Keegan takes on the cases that nobody else will touch, ruled by a resolute optimism, belief in justice and dogged determination to defend those who seem beyond redemption.

When I read the script for this pilot, I immediately knew that FOX was going to pick it up. I mean they would be kind of dumb not to. I thought it was really good. The characters are such a mess, which I like but there is always something redeemable about them. It reminds me a little of House, which FOX is hoping this show with Greg Kinnear in his first foray into television becomes the huge hit that that show was. This trailer doesn’t do the script justice but I’ll be watching anyway.  Rake will premiere in January in the mid-season on Thursdays at 9/8c.

Surviving Jack – Starring Christopher Meloni (Law & Order:SVU, True Blood). Set in 1990s Southern California, the show is about a man becoming a dad, as his son becomes a man, in a time before “coming of age” was something you could Google.

I will watch Christopher Meloni in anything so I will definitely be watching this. I haven’t seen him do comedy before so this will be a nice change. I love anything 90’s related so this is right up my alley. Surviving Jack will air sometime during the mid-season.

Sleepy Hollow – Starring Nicole Beharie (42, Shame, American Violet, The Good Wife) and Tom Mison (Salmon Fishing In The Yemen, Secret Diary of A Call Girl), Orlando Jones (Mad TV). This version is a modern-day adaptation of the story. Ichabod Crane is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to find that the world is on the brink of destruction and that he is humanity’s last hope, forcing him to team up with a contemporary police officer to unravel a mystery that dates back to the founding fathers.

I don’t know. I do like Sleepy Hollow (the many versions that I’ve seen) and I like the cast, especially Nicole Beharie, so I hope this one sticks. This is another series that is going to run like a cable show  during the fall for 12-15 episodes. I like this model because there are no reruns. FOX did this successfully this spring with The Following and in the past with 24. Sleepy Hollow will air Mondays at 9/8c.

Us & Them – Starring Jason Ritter (Parenthood, The Event), Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls, Mad Men). The show is about a young couple, whose path to happily-ever-after is complicated by the screwed-up circus of people closest to them. This is based on a BBC series, Gavin & Stacey.

Gonna miss Jason Ritter on Parenthood and I love Alexis Bledel not only for Gilmore Girls but because she is a fellow Houstonian (woo wooo H-Town). This looks this is going to fit in great with FOX’s Tuesday night of female skewing comedies (New Girl, The Mindy Project). It seems to play much like a romantic comedy. Alexis Bledel’s character seems like a grown up Rory Gilmore. It looks cute. I’ll of course be watching. Us & Them isn’t scheduled yet but it will probably come sometime in January.

Enlisted – Starring Geoff Stults (Ben and Kate, The Finder, 7th Heaven), Chris Lowell (Private Practice, Veronica Mars) and Parker Young (Suburgatory). A show about an older sibling who returns home to reconnect with his two brothers and lead a group of misfits on a small Florida Army base.

Not really feeling this. That is all. Enlisted will air Fridays at 9:30/8:30c.

Gang Related – Starring Terry O’Quinn (Lost, 666 Park Avenue, Hawaii Five-O), RZA (Californication), Ramon Rodriguez (Battle Los Angeles, The Wire). The show is about Ryan Lopez, a rising star in Los Angeles’ elite Gang Task Force led by Sam Chapel who teams up with longtime Task Force member Cassius Green to take on the city’s most dangerous gangs, including one he has an allegiance to.

Looks good. Reminds me a little bit of the 90’s show, New York Undercover. It also looks like a Fast & The Furious movie (The creator wrote Fast Five, Fast & The Furious 6 and is writing the next installation in the franchise, Fast & The Furious 7). I’ll be watching. I love movies and shows like this. Gang Related has not been scheduled yet but it will most likely air in January.

Dads – Starring Seth Green (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Robot Chicken, Family Guy), Giovanni Ribisi (Boiler Room, The Rum Dairy), Martin Mull (Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Two & A Half Men), Peter Riegert (The Good Wife). Created by Seth MacFarlene. The show is about two successful gaming entrepreneurs and childhood best friends whose lives get turned upside down when their pain-in-the-neck fathers move in.

I like Seth MacFarlane and LOVE Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi but this show just…. no. I don’t think it’s going to work. Giovanni you are soooooooooooooo much better than this show. Dads will air Tuesdays at 8/7c.
