5 Shows To Watch This Fall

Fall première dates are coming up and there are too many things to watch. No worries. It was extremely difficult but I have narrowed it down to the 5 shows that you must watch.

1. Brooklyn Nine-Nine (FOX) Premieres Tuesday, September 17 @8:30/7:30c.

I have a thing for André Braugher (Men Of A Certain Age, Gideon’s Crossing). I think he’s absolutely wonderful. So when I saw that this show got picked up by Fox, I was excited. The show is a comedy about is about how members of a Brooklyn squad deal with a new very straight-laced and tightly wound police chief played by Braugher. The comedy for most of the show comes from the interplay between Braugher and the squad’s lead cop, played by Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live), who just can’t seem to adjust. This show looks hilarious and I have read nothing but good things about it. Samberg had many great moments on SNL so he will bring the funny.  I just really want them to let Braugher be great. I need him to be on a show that people give a chance. Hopefully this one is it.

2. The Michael J Fox Show (NBC) Premieres Thursday, September 26 @9/8c.

Michael J. Fox hasn’t been the star of a show since he left Spin City in 2000 because of his Parkinson’s disease. He has done a lot of guest stints on different shows since then; my favorite being his arcs on The Good Wife. It’s nice that now he is returning to television full-time and in something that is really good at, comedy. The new show emulates the actor’s life a bit in that it is about a news anchor at the top of his game who decided to leave his job to spend more time with his family. After being at home for 5 years, his family is ready for him to leave the house and return to work. The cast also includes Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad) and Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Treme, Suits). I saw part of this pilot in one of my classes last semester and I really liked it so I can’t wait to see the finished product.

FOX New Series Trailers

Here are a couple of teaser trailers of some of FOX’s new series coming next fall. Their new slate looks pretty good. Which of these make it to May 2014? Any guesses?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine – Starring Andy Sandberg (Saturday Night Live), André Braugher (Men of A Certain Age, Last Resort), Terry Crews (White Chicks, Expendables), and Melissa Fumero (CSI:NY). The show is a workplace comedy about what happens when a hotshot detective gets a new Captain with a lot to prove.

André Braugher is one hard-working man. It’s a testament to his talent that he can get work so quickly. For some reason people never watch his shows. His last 2 shows (Men of A Certain Age (I still miss this show) and Last Resort) were cancelled pretty quickly. Hopefully this one sticks. From watching this trailer it looks pretty funny. I like those comedies where the straight man plays against the goofball so I’m sure I’ll like this. Brooklyn Nine-Nine will air Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30c. Continue reading FOX New Series Trailers

Partners, 666 Park Avenue and Last Resort Cancelled

Cancellations are afoot. The ax was dropped on 3 new shows Friday. CBS cancelled new comedy, Partners and ABC cancelled 666 Park Avenue and Last Resort.

Partners is the second show cancelled by CBS this season. They were the first network to cancel a show this fall with the critically and audience panned, Made In Jersey. Partners seemed like it would be ok. It was created by creators of  Will & Grace and that show was good so I thought this one had potential. Plus Michael Urie was in it so I was up for it.  The show premiered to 7 million and steadily went down from there. The post How I Met Your Mother spot seems to have bad luck for new comedies on CBS. The last 3 shows to premiere in that 8:30/7:30c timeslot (Mad Love, Accidentally On Purpose, Welcome To The Captain) have all been cancelled. CBS has taken Partners off the schedule and will more than likely dumb the rest of the episodes that have been produced on Saturday night.

666 Park Avenue just never took off at all. It premiered to 7 million viewers and hit a series low of under 4 million with the latest episode that aired last Sunday. I watched the premiere and it was ok. I wanted it to be better as it has a pretty great cast on the show, but it just didn’t and I have 5 aired episodes still unwatched on my dvr. Last Resort also got cancelled by ABC. The show was a critical favorite but suffered from low ratings. The show was good but I it just didn’t click with me. I tried to stick to the show but after 4 episodes I was pretty much done with it. Poor Andre Braugher though. He just can’t catch a break. His last show, Men of A Certain Age was cancelled by TNT last year because of low ratings. ABC will air the rest of 666 and Last Resort‘s 13 episodes.

What To Watch: September 27

When he also refuses to fire without confirmation of the orders, the Colorado is targeted, fired upon, and hit.
