Awkward Black Girl: Countdown to Season 2 **5 DAYS AWAY**

The countdown to the Awkward Black Girl season 2 premiere is on. The show premieres this Thursday, June 14th and to celebrate I am going to countdown my top 5 episodes of season 1 everyday until the season 2 premiere.

#5 – The Stop Sign

The Stop Sign is the first episode of the series and it set the tone for the rest of the season. I love this episode because while not perfect, it shows the potential of the series. It’s also just plain hilarious. There were so many things in this episode that made me cringe and laugh like “Booty Shorts”, fake phone calls , “A”, the lyrics “yes you deserve to die and I hope you burn in hell” (I don’t know why that one especially tickles me).

Stop by tomorrow to see what #4 will be.

**UPDATED**Awkward Black Girl Season 2 Gets A Premiere Date and A New Home

**UPDATE** Season 2 of ABG will premiere on June 14th. Here is the trailer for season 2.

ABG is back snitches!!!! Writer, producer and star of the hit and Shorty award-winning webseries has set the premiere date for the new season. Season 2 will premiere this June, more than likely on June 7th, if the pattern of the episode releases (first Thursday of the month) stays the same.

With the new season come some new characters who we saw at the end of season 1. There is a new boss and some new hires. We’ll also be seeing how J and White Jay’s relationship is going and all the awkward gems that come from that.

Another thing that is different is that ABG has now become a part of Pharrell Williams’ new I Am OTHER Youtube channel. The channel features programming that wants to celebrate and “explore the pursuit of individuality, the defiance of expectations, and the arrival of a new class of visionaries. ”

I can’t wait. I love this show. If you have never gotten into the awesome, amazingness of ABG, then get on it before the premiere next month. Here is episode 1. You’re welcome.

Smash

Smash is an NBC show that premiered last month about the drama that happens on and off the stage during the making of a Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. The show has a cast of some familiar faces as well as some newcomers. American Idol’s Katherine McPhee and Megan Hilty star as Karen and Ivy, the two ladies who battle it out to play Marilyn. Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston also star in the  show.

Seven episodes in and I really like it. I loved the pilot. It showed a lot of potential.  I think it has gotten a little soap opera-y but I like soap operas so I have no problems with that. I have read somethings where they call it the grownup version of Glee but I have to disagree. Glee especially now is just so haphazard and makes no sense. They also just sing for singing sake, it has nothing to do with developing the plot or the characters whereas on Smash there is a purpose for every song.

Lets talk about the singing. It’s pretty great. Katherine McPhee to me was ok on Idol but her voice has gotten better over the years and Megan Hilty, who I had no clue about before this show, is clearly from Broadway. She plays her role so well and her singing is great too (There was one song on a recent episode that didn’t sound that great but it was still better than half the singing on Glee).

The ratings have been so-so for other channels but for NBC, it has definitely boosted its Monday night viewership. Thank goodness because they just renewed the show for a 2nd season. YAY!!! If you haven’t checked it out you should.

American Horror Story Season 2

The cast for the second season of American Horror Story (AHS) has been announced. Ryan Murphy, creator of reported AHS and Glee, told reporters at the Friday night the characters that are going to be back for the 2nd season.

Season 2 of AHS will bring back Jessica Lange (Constance), Sarah Paulson (Billy Dean the medium), Evan Peters (Tate Langdon), Lily Rabe (Nora Montgomery) and Zachary Quinto (Chad Warwick).  All of them will be playing different characters than they did in the first season. Murphy also says that there might be other characters from season 1 dropping in.

This doesn’t bode well with me for the second season. Ryan Murphy has a habit of making good to great first seasons of his shows and then completely ruining them the second season. See Glee and Nip Tuck (although season 2 of Nip Tuck, I think, was on par with the first. Season 3 is when it all went to hell). AHS wasn’t a great show but it was pretty good and I don’t like the way I have to worry about my main characters dying. It makes me not care about the show one bit. I don’t think I’ll be watching the 2nd season of this but we’ll see. I said I was done with Top Model and I’m back on that again. Sigh.
