Summer Television: Thursday May 23, 2013

Save Me – NBC 8/7c. Starring Anne Heche (Six Days, Seven Nights; Hung) as a woman who was quite a mess of a person but then has a near death experience and can now talk directly to God. She now spreads the word of God around to people but no one believes her because she was so horrible before.

Does Someone Have To Go? – FOX 9/8c – A reality series that gives employees a voice in assessing how their company is functioning, inviting them to make recommendations on how best to solve their issues in order to make their company better and giving them the power to determine the fates of their fellow staffers. But when the owners leave their companies in the hands of their employees, those workers quickly learn that solving personnel issues isn’t as easy as it looks.

Four Weddings – TLC 9/8c – Reality show where four brides with their own personal styles and traditions agree to attend and judge each other’s weddings on the basis of food, dress, venue, originality, and overall experience. The winning bride is awarded a five-star dream honeymoon.

Motives – ABC 9/8c – I talked about this show on in my last summer television post. I don’t get why they are calling this the premiere when it happened on Monday. Monday’s episode didn’t really get many viewers. I don’t think it’s going to make it through the summer.

Rookie Blue – ABC 10/9c. A group of young and ambitious rookie cops continue to navigate the emotional trials and tribulations of their professional and personal lives. After three years on the job, these rookies are well on their way to becoming experienced officers, but at what cost?

Trailers Galore: The Wolverine

A new trailer for the movie The Wolverine came out this week and it’s all kinds of wonderful and by wonderful I mean lots of brooding shirtless Hugh Jackman scenes. God that man is beautiful. Oh yeah the action looks pretty awesome too. See for yourself.

The Wolverine hits theaters July 26, 2013.

Summer Television Monday May 20, 2013

Most of your favorite shows are done for the season. Only a couple are airing their finales this week (Hawaii Five-O, Grimm, Dancing With The Stars, Modern Family, Nashville, etc). Summer TV begins this week. Some of it burnoffs that will never be heard again and others are great summer favorites that fill the void from fall television. Here is what’s on tonight.

Goodwin Games – FOX 8:30/7:30c. The show stars Scott Foley (Scandal, Felicity), Becki Newton (Ugly Betty), and T.J Miller (Chelsea Lately, Our Idiot Brother) as three estranged siblings who return home after the loss of their beloved father and unexpectedly find themselves poised to inherit more than $20 million only if they can adhere to their late father’s wishes.

Motives – ABC 10/9c. They keep saying on the promo that this starts on Thursday but they are airing the first episode today. Soo random. The show stars Kristin Lehman (The Killing, Judging Amy), Louis Ferreira (SGU Stargate Universe, Rookie Blue) and Lauren Holly (NCIS, Chicago Hope). The show is about two homicide detectives looking for clues that will lead them to a murderer. But the twist on the typical police procedural is they identify the killer and victim at the beginning of each episode. As the mystery unfolds, winding between revealing flashbacks and present time, viewers will navigate the twisted and complicated maze of each murder, solving the puzzle alongside the detectives and their team; piecing together more of the mysterious connections that drove the Killer to commit murder. I thought already did this show and it was called Law & Order: Criminal Intent

I will have a full calendar of all the summer premiere dates later on this week. Until then happy Monday.

FOX New Series Trailers

Here are a couple of teaser trailers of some of FOX’s new series coming next fall. Their new slate looks pretty good. Which of these make it to May 2014? Any guesses?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine – Starring Andy Sandberg (Saturday Night Live), André Braugher (Men of A Certain Age, Last Resort), Terry Crews (White Chicks, Expendables), and Melissa Fumero (CSI:NY). The show is a workplace comedy about what happens when a hotshot detective gets a new Captain with a lot to prove.

André Braugher is one hard-working man. It’s a testament to his talent that he can get work so quickly. For some reason people never watch his shows. His last 2 shows (Men of A Certain Age (I still miss this show) and Last Resort) were cancelled pretty quickly. Hopefully this one sticks. From watching this trailer it looks pretty funny. I like those comedies where the straight man plays against the goofball so I’m sure I’ll like this. Brooklyn Nine-Nine will air Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30c. Continue reading FOX New Series Trailers

CBS 2013 Upfronts

CBS is the number one network and because of that fact they do not have much that needs changing. Their approach to their 2013-2014 schedule is if it ain’t broke don’t fix it one. They extended their Thursday night comedy to 2 hours and they have taken a page out of cable’s playbook and are doing short series runs on Monday nights with two new series having short 15 episode seasons. One will air in the fall and the other during the mid-season. The new series coming next year are We Are Men, Mom, The Millers, Reckless, The Crazy Ones, Hostages, Intelligence and Friends With Better Lives. Check out the schedule below.

Out of the 13 shows that ABC picked up we got 6 correct but we were correct on all the cancellations so yay. Check out the new schedule below.

NBC New Series Trailers

NBC-logo

NBC might be in the whole but they have picked up some shows that look very promising for their 2013-2014 season. A couple of trailers have been released and I will continue to update this post as more become available.

The Blacklist – Starring James Spader (Boston Legal, The Office, Pretty In Pink), Megan Boone (Blue Bloods, Step Up Revolution), Diego Klattenhoff (Homeland), Harry Lennix (Man of Steel, Stomp The Yard, 24), Ryan Eggold (90210). The show is about Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader), one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives, surrenders to the FBI. He claims that his and the FBI’s interests are aligned together: bringing down dangerous criminals and terrorists. Red will cooperate, but only if he speaks to Elizabeth Keen, a rookie FBI profiler. Keen questions his sudden interest in her, though he claims that Keen is very special (probably his long lost daughter lol). After the FBI brings down a terrorist he provided information on, Reddington reveals that the terrorist is only just the first of many other names of criminals they don’t know of. He calls it “The Blacklist”.

This show looks like it’s going to be pretty good. I heart James Spader. He can never do any wrong to me (He came pretty close on The Office). I am all in from this trailer. The Blacklist will air on Monday nights at 10/9c after The Voice.

Sean Saves The World – Starring Sean Hayes (Will & Grace, Smash), Thomas Lennon (17 Again, Reno 911!),  Echo Kellum (Ben & Kate), Linda Lavin (The Back-Up Plan). The show is about a man who has to figure out how to parent his 14-year-old daughter, who just moved in with him, all while trying to juggle his new boss at work.

I don’t know about this show.  I like Sean Hayes but this doesn’t look that good. I don’t see this lasting. Sean Saves The World will air on Thursdays at 9/8c.

The Michael J. Fox Show – Starring Michael J. Foxx (Spin City, The Good Wife), Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Suits), Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad), Kate Finneran (I Hate My Teenage Daughter, Miss Congeniality 2). The show is based on the life of Michael J. Fox being a husband and a dad and dealing with his Parkingson’s disease all while working as a news anchor.

This show actually looks good. I saw part of the pilot in class and I liked it. Very promising. Hopefully they won’t only really on making the easy Parkinson’s jokes. The Michael J. Fox Show will air Thursdays at 9:30/8:30c.

Ironside – Starring Blair Underwood (The Event, In Treatment, Sex & The City). The show is a remake of an NBC show that aired from 1967 – 1975. It is about an acerbic police detective relegated to a wheelchair after getting shot. This paralysis doesn’t hinder him from continuing to push and prod his hand-picked team to solve the most difficult cases in the city.

I don’t even care that this is another procedural on tv. It’s BLAIR UNDERWOOD and he is back on my screen. Enough said. Ironside will air Wednesdays at 10/9c.

Welcome To The Family – Starring Mike O’Malley (Glee, Justified), Mary McCormack (The West Wing, In Plain Sight), Ricardo Chavira (Desperate Housewives), Justina Machado (Six Feet Under, ER). The show is about a white family and a Latino family who become bonded for life when their respective children fall in love and get married because of an unplanned pregnancy.

Good cast. That’s about all I can say about the show. It reminds me of a show that use to air but I can’t quite but my finger on it. We’ll see. Welcome To The Family airs Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c.

Dracula – Starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors). The show is another adaptation of the vampire Dracula (duh). In this one Dracula has just arrived in London posing as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. But he has another motivation: He hopes to take revenge on those who cursed him with immortality.

I like Jonathan. Liked him in The Tutors and his various movies. I’m just tired of Dracula and the whole vampire thing already. But it reminds me a little bit of Interview With The Vampire which I do love so I’ll be of course watching. Dracula will air Fridays at 10/9c.

Trailers Galore: The Best Man Holiday

Fifteen years after The Best Man was released to the masses and became a classic movie, we are getting a sequel. The Best Man Holiday brings the crew back together during the holidays. We will catch up with them and find out where they are in their lives since the last movie as well see how those old rivalries and romances can start back up again when everyone gets back together.

The Best Man Holiday (who came up with this title. It’s quite terrible) hits theaters November 15, 2013.

FOX 2013 Upfronts

fox-logo1_300x206

FOX had a lot of problems this past year (Idol’s continuous downfall, The disaster that was Season 2 of X-Factor, their mediocre Tuesday comedy block ratings) but they also had some success in their new show, The Following. The network which has less programming hours  than all the other networks picked up 12 new series: Sleepy Hollow, Dads, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Almost Human, Junior Masterchef, Enlisted, Gang Related, Murder Police, Surviving Jack, Us & Them, Rake, Gang Related, Wayward Pines. They are also bringing back a blast from the past, 24: Live Another Day with Keifer Sutherland for a 12 episode limited series run. You know your network is in trouble if you are bringing back a hit show that has been off the air for 3 years. Check out the full schedule below.
