So much going on in the tv and movie world this week. Here are some from this week.
Arsenio Hall Returning To Late Night – Whoop, Whoop, Whoop Whoop. Arsenio Hall is going to get his own late-night talk show again. CBS Television Distribution is developing a new syndicated talk show for the comedian to debut next fall. It has been almost 20 years since the Arsenio Hall Show ended and we hadn’t really seen much of the comedian lately. Arsenio was recently seen on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice, where he was crowned the winner over former American Idol runner up, Clay Aiken. In interviews leading up to the finale of Celebrity Apprentice, Hall made many statements about wanting to return to late-night. Clearly someone was taking note. Rock of Ages is a film based on the hit Broadway musical about a small town girl Sherrie, played by Julianne Hough (Footloose) and city boy Drew (Diego Boneta; 90210), who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and many other 80’s hits.
When I saw the trailer for this movie, I thought this was going to be a disaster. It just looked a mess. So I was definitely going into this with lowered expectations. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed myself. I’m a big 80’s hair metal fan so I just had a wonderful time singing along and dancing to all those hits. The acting wasn’t anything to rave about but some people were clearly better than others. Tom Cruise really went for it with his role here as Stacy Jaxx. He played the part as a mix of Axl Rose and Mr. Rock of Love himself, Brett Michaels. He has definitely won me back with this movie and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Mary J. Blige should keep her day job and Julianne Hough just needs to disappear (although she was better in this movie). If you don’t take this movie too seriously, you will be able to enjoy yourself and have a good time. Check out Rock of Ages in theaters this Friday.
Yessssss!!! The first teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film, Django Unchained was released today. The movie stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz played by Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds, Water For Elephants). Schultz is on the trail of the Brittle brothers, and only needs Django’s help with a promise to free him upon their capture – dead or alive. Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington; Scandal), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.
I love Quentin and this movie looks great. He always manages to get the best people in his movies. I usually like all of his movies so this probably won’t be any different. Django Unchained is in theaters this Christmas.
MTV movie awards are one of the most ridiculous of the many award shows out there, but they are always good for a few laughs. This year was hosted by Russell Brand again because no one else will dothis show.
This pre-show is a hot mess. Kat Graham (The Vampire Diaries) is a hot mess. Seriously Bonnie? What is with this terrible weave and your outfit is not any better. Ugh. Love the shoes though. Here is a transcription of her interview with Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. Kat to Emma Stone – “I am here with the lovely Emma Stone and I think there is somebody hiding behind you.” Andrew – “I’m not hiding.” Kat – “You’re not hiding.” Andrew – “No.” Kat – “Oh, he’s just being Spidermanny and stuff.” Awkward laughter from everyone. WTH??
Yes FUN. I love their single “We Are Young.” Such a good song. It makes me think of some Queen songs. YESSSSSSSS they brought Janelle Monae out to do her part of the song. Continue reading 2012 MTV Movie Awards→
Snow White & The Huntsman is the new film based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. In this adaptation, Kristen Stewart plays, Snow White, the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen, played by Charlize Theron, who is out to destroy her. But the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth; Avengers, Thor, Cabin In The Woods) the queen orders to bring Snow White in from the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.
I said before that I was looking forward to this movie mostly because of Charlize and because Kristen Stewart didn’t speak at all. Well I saw the movie this past week and it was pretty ok. On a ratings scale, it would be a B-. Charlize is good as usual. She did her thing with this part and is clearly the best part of this movie. She is also like crazy beautiful. I just kept looking at her was just mesmerized. Chris Hemsworth is also nice to look at. I thought with what he was given, he did a good job. I also liked that they didn’t go into a full-blown love story with the huntsman and Snow White but just provided you with teases of one.
As for Kristen Stewart, I was loving that the trailer was actually pretty true to the movie in that Kristen Stewart didn’t have many lines in the movie. There so many long stretches of dialogue that didn’t include her that I was just trilled. She also was able to emote more at a couple of points something other than the bitch face that she has permanently stuck on.
I would recommend this movie because it has everything a good gothic fantasy movie should: good action, a superb villain and just a hint of a love story. Snow White & The Huntsman is in theaters now.
This trailer looks so good. Tobey McGuire, Carey Mulligan, Joel Edgerton and Leonardo DiCaprio all in one movie, yes please. The movie is directed by Baz Luhrmann, who did one of my favorite Nicole Kidman movies, Moulin Rouge. It is based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald book most of us had to read in middle school or high school about “writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.” The movie hits theaters Christmas Day, 2012.
True Blood
Yesss my show is back. Season 4 was crazy and Season 5 looks even crazier. They had already released a trailer but that one was more of a teaser. This one finally shows who new cast member, Christopher Meloni (Stabler, Law & Order: SVU), will be playing. Last season ended with a blood bath. Jesus, Tara, Debbie, Marnie, Tommy, Nan and more were all taken out. Russell is going to be back (Yay love him). The new season is only 2 weeks away. It premieres June 10 at 9/8c.
Skyfall
Love Bond movies. All this trailer. It’s all fluff. Lots of things exploding and plenty of action scenes, plus it’s got the hot hot Daniel Craig in it. I will always watch Bond movies because I have watched them since I was a kid so they always have a special place in my heart. Skyfall hits theaters November 9, 2012.
Anchorman 2
Anchorman has to be one of Will Ferrell’s funniest movies and when I saw they were doing a sequel. I thought yes but ughh a sequel. After watching this teaser trailer, I can say that all my doubts have been removed. It was too funny. The movie hasn’t started shooting yet but it has a release date of sometime in 2013.
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
This movie is produced by Tim Burton and I like him so I will most definitely be seeing this movie. It is based on the Seth Grahame-Smith novel by the same name about Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, who discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He then makes it his mission to end them. This trailer is the new red band trailer with lots of blood, gore and killing. The movie hits theaters June 22,2012.
Francis Lawrence has some explaining to do. I was already upset about a new director for Catching Fire, the next book in the Hunger Games Series, but now rumor has it that he will be casting Robert Pattinson as the fan favorite character, Finnick Odair. Lawrence and Pattinson worked together on the lukewarm critically acclaimed box office bomb, Water For Elephants.
No no no to this. Pattinson is NOT Finnick. Finnick is very much a pretty boy character and that in no way describes Pattinson. Plus I just don’t want my Hunger Games franchise to be tainted with anything Twilight.
It makes sense though that Pattinson would want to jump on another franchise because his other credits that aren’t Twilight have pretty much been DOA. Water For Elephants was not actually not a bad movie but it wasn’t that good either and Remember Me was quite terrible.
Of course I’ll still be watching the movie if he is cast, but I don’t have to like it. Hopefully they’ll go with the better choices that others have come up with.
I thought it was decent. I would rate it a solid B. Pretty funny. Not a fan of all the mushy oh I love being a parent blah blah blah but I expected that since I mean it’s a movie about parenting. Most unrealistic part was when Chase Crawford (who was looking really good) and Anna Kendrick characters had sex once and got pregnant and he stuck around and all of a sudden they were in love. Please. The ensemble is pretty good. One thing that was weird was Chris Rock. Something looked real off about him. His hair looked a mess. He looked like Frederick Douglass (thanks Erika). He was hilarious though as usual. What to Expect When You Are Expecting is in theaters now.
So The Avengers is pretty much the biggest thing since sliced bread worldwide. Check out the numbers on EW and see just how much we all collectively spent on this movie.
