I know I’m over 3 weeks late here but…. better late than never right? So upfronts happened and brought about the final nail to the coffins of many shows as well as plenty of renewals for the networks. We also get a preview of what the fall 2012 has in store for us.
Lets’s start with ABC. Their cancelled shows for the 11-12 season were Charlie’s Angels, Desperate Housewives, GCB, Man Up!, Missing, Pan Am, The River and Work It. Renewed shows are Castle, Modern Family, Body of Proof, Cougar Town, Dancing With the Stars, Grey’s Anatomy, Happy Endings, Last Man Standing, Once Upon A Time, Private Practice, Revenge, Suburgatory, The Bachelor, and The Middle.
I’m not really sad about any of the shows that were cancelled here. The only one that I feel they should have given more time to was GCB. Maybe let it run a little more in the summer to catch more of an audience. Their ratings weren’t terrible either so I didn’t really understand that one. As for everything that got renewed YES, YES, YES especially Cougar Town. TBS came in with a last minute save on the show because ABC was definitely going to ax it. So come this fall Cougar Town will no longer air on ABC but on TBS.
For the fall, ABC has decided to move things around a little bit. Revenge is on the move as is Happy Endings. They are going to attempt to bring back TGIF. Here is what is in store for fall 12.
So Revenge has been moved to Sundays at 9/8c, Happy Endings and Don’t Trust The B– In Apt 23 have been moved to Tuesdays starting at 9/8c. Not happy about any of these moves but yay for DVR. Check out all the trailers for the new shows, 666 Park Avenue (Yes Vanessa Williams), The Neighbors (This is what they put in The Happy Endings timeslot? Well I foresee it being back there by January), Last Resort, Malibu Country, Nashville (Connie Britton yessss love her), Mistresses (If this is as good as the BBC show with the same title, I am in), The Family Tools, Red Widow, Zero Hour, and How To Live With Your Parents For The Rest Of Your Life.
On to the eye network. They were pretty solid this season and didn’t have many missteps so they don’t have many new shows coming because they had few cancellations. What didn’t make the cut this fall was A Gifted Man, CSI:Miami, How To Be A Gentleman, NYC 22, Rob and Unforgettable. Undercover Boss, Two and a Half Men, 2 Broke Girls, The Mentalist, The Good Wife, The Big Bang Theory, The Amazing Race, Survivor, Rules of Engagement, Person of Interest, NCIS:LA, NCIS, Mike & Molly, How I Met YOur Mother, Hawaii 5-O, Criminal Minds, CSI and CSI:NY will all be returning in the fall or spring.
Not really feeling anything for any of the shows cancelled except for CSI:Miami. They didn’t get a proper send off at all. I would hope for a proper series finale but CBS has already said it’s not happening. So long Horatio and I’m going to miss some of the ridiculously funny one liners they wrote for him.
For fall 2012, a couple of things are different but mostly they are exactly the same. Here is the schedule.
Aww man they are moving The Good Wife to 10/9c on Sundays. This is no good. It’s going to be hard deciding what to watch live and what to dvr between this show and Revenge on ABC that is moving into the same time period. I also like that they have put together two solid days of comedies and neither interfere with my Wednesday night staple of ABC comedies. Here are some trailers for some of the new shows.
Elementary
I love Johnny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu so I am all for this show here. I looks like it’s based a little bit on the same premise as BBC’s Sherlock.
Vegas
Check out the rest of the new shows: Made In Jersey, and Partners.
The CW doesn’t have many hours to fill so there weren’t very many shows cancelled this season. Shows that will not be returning at The Ringer, Secret Circle, H8R, One Tree Hill, L.A Complex and Remodeled. Shows returning are 90210, America’s Next Top Model, Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie, Nikita, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries.
So sad to see The Ringer go but not surprised at all. It just didn’t do well at all and for the amount of money they were spending on the show it definitely wasn’t worth keeping. Secret Circle was a good show. I think because it didn’t start off good people just didn’t tune in and so the viewership never grew even though the series got better. Soo glad Nikita made it. Love this show and it just keeps getting better. That being said I’m sure next season will be the final season of the show.
For the fall and mid-season, there are aren’t very many new shows. The network has picked up the shows The Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, Emily Owens, M.D, The Cult, and The Carrie Diaries. No trailer yet for The Carrie Diaries but check out the rest below.
The Arrow
Beauty and the Beast
The Cult
Emily Owens, M.D
FOX was one of the more cancel happy networks this season. Cancelled shows are Allen Gregory, Breaking In, House, Napoleon Dynamite, The Finder, I Hate My Teenage Daughter, Terra Nova, and Alcatrez. Shows returning for another go at it are American Dad, American Idol, Bones, Cleveland Show, Family Guy, Fringe, Glee, Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, New Girl, Raising Hope, The Cleveland Show, The Simpsons, The X-Factor and Touch.
Terra Nova and Alcatrez were two of Fox’s highest rated shows and yet they still got cancelled. Terra Nova, I get why it was cancelled. There was a huge budget on that show and it needed to be pulling in Idol ratings to make it worth it. I thought Alcatrez was going to make it. Between that and Touch, Alcatrez had the better ratings, plus I kinda hoped they would cancel Touch so that Kiefer Sutherland could be free to go finally start shooting the 24 movie. Yay Fringe is back again. This show just keeps surviving. I thought it was going to be cancelled season 2 when the ratings were low but it kept making the cut. Season 5 will be the final one for this great show that I need to play catch-up on.
As for Fall on Fox, nothing is really changing. Glee is moving to Thursdays in the post X-Factor/Idol results spot. I guess they are trying to raise the ratings of the show. I don’t know why they would put a show that is going into its 4th season in that spot and not use it to push one of their new shows but whatever. I’m not in charge of programming and timeslots. They have also decided to do a 2 hr comedy block on Tuesdays with breakout hit New Girl, Raising Hope, new show Ben & Kate and the new Mindy Kaling (The Office) show, The Mindy Project (Can we just take a moment to say how horrible this title is).
Check out the trailers for their new shows.
The Mindy Project

And finally last and but not least is NBC. They were definitely the most cancel happy network this season, axing a total of 10 shows that include The Sing-Off, Playboy Club, Prime Suspect, The Firm, Harry’s Law, Free Agents, Chuck, Bent, Awake, and Are You There, Chelsea? Returning shows are 30 Rock, Community, Grimm, Fashion Star, Law & Order:SVU, Parenthood, Parks & Recreation, The Apprentice, The Biggest Loser, The Office, Rock Center With Brian Williams, Smash, The Voice, Up All Night, and Whitney.
Not shocked by any cancellations, but I’m upset about Bent. That was a pretty good show. Chelsea was meant for paid cable a la HBO, Showtime or something like that not NBC so I knew there was no way it would last. That show did a major disservice to Chelsea Handler’s books because as one who has read all of them they are pretty hilarious something Are You There wasn’t. How the hell did Whitney survive and Prime Suspect which was a way better show got cut? So glad Parenthood survived. One of the most underrated shows on tv.
With the many cuts that NBC made they are trying to make a comeback with a new slate of shows.Check out what the schedule for the fall looks like.
I see they are moving Law & Order: SVU back to 9/8c on Wednesdays. Yeah because that worked out so well the last time they did that back in the 09-10 season. Oh yeah and moving Community to Fridays really? and with WHITNEY? Why not just kill off the show now? I mean they are already getting rid of the creator and show runner, Dan Harmon so kick it some more while it’s down. I just don’t understand who is doing the scheduling there. It makes no sense to me.
Here are the trailers for some of the new shows coming in the fall.
Chicago Fire
The New Normal
Since this is a Ryan Murphy show I will love it for the first season and then mercilessly trash it for seasons to come.
Revolution
Go On
This looks pretty good. I’m so horrible because I’m hoping for failure with this show because I NEED him to be on The Good Wife this upcoming season to go up against Chris Noth’s character, Peter.
Check out the rest: Animal Practice and Guys With Kids.
So here is what the schedule looks like altogether for Fall 2012. My dvr and I are looking forward to all of it.
Okay — excited about Matthew Perry thing because it has Chris from Everybody Hates Chris, Perry’s great but I’m worried he’s had some work done because I don’t feel as though his forehead moves enough. You gotta botox to get jobs, fine, but he’s Kidmanning. Mindy – she’s hilarious, but the hot guy (not the Brit) is basically my motivation to watch this.
