Awkward Black Girl: Countdown To Season 2 **1 Day Away**

**It’s more like less than 8 hours away**

We are finally down to my #1 episode of ABG. I have enjoyed going back and watching all the episodes over again in preparation for the season 2 premiere that is coming tonight. It made me like this series even more. So my favorite episode is episode 5: The Dance. This episode is the best to me because first it starts off with a dance montage to Ice Cube’s “You Can Do It (Put Your Back Into It)”, then it shows us why “hair is the best thing to happen to rhythmless non blacks.” Everything about this episode is how I feel at parties, the awkward dance like you are having a good time, trying to make friends, and dancing next to people so they will recognize their urge to dance with me. Haha I am cracking up just thinking about all my awkward moments at parties. It’s all a hot mess and I love it. It is also where we are introduced to the wonderful white J. The way they meet and instantly click is so great and it’s why from this episode on I was team white J. It also introduced me to Frank Ocean’s “Novacane,” a song I can never get enough of. Every time the song comes on I think of this episode. I just love it so much.

Be sure to watch the season 2 premiere episode tonight at 9/8c on the iamOTHER channel.

Safety Not Guaranteed Review

Sometimes a movie comes out of nowhere, smacks you upside your head and wins you over completely. This is exactly what happened when I watched the new movie, from the producers of Little Miss Sunshine, Safety Not Guaranteed.

When I saw the trailer for this, I really didn’t think anything of it. I thought ehh little indie film that I might or might not see. Thank goodness I did because I absolutely loved it. I haven’t left a movie this year feeling the way I felt after seeing this film.

The film is about a man named Kenneth (Mark Duplass; Jeff Who Lives At Home, People Like Us) who places an ad that reads: “Wanted: Somebody to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. You’ll get paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. I have only done this once before. Safety not guaranteed.” The ad gets the attention of a magazine and they send out three employees to investigate it. Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation), Jake Johnson (New Girl) and Karan Soni (Touch, Are You There, Chelsea?) star as the magazine employees that investigate Kenneth.

The film is a mix of sci-fi and romantic comedy in the best ways. Aubrey Plaza is so perfect as Darius, the magazine intern that pretends to be just the partner that Kenneth needs. I think I loved her because she is dripping in cynicism and sarcastic wit but there is just so much more to her and this movie. It’s quirky, heartfelt, funny, very sweet and eccentric all at once. I think if you liked Little Miss Sunshine, you will like this movie.

It’s out now in limited release.

Awkward Black Girl: Countdown to Season 2 **2 DAYS AWAY**

Yay 2 days away from the ABG season 2 premiere. I have counted down my top 5 episodes all week now and today we are at #2. My second favorite episode is episode 7: The Date. I love everything about this episode from the beginning where they do a nice She’s All That reference, to Cece trying to drop some knowledge on J on dating white guys, to the end when J, White J and Fred see each other. It is also one of my favorites because this is the episode that made me give some of hard-earned money from the slave labor I do to their kickstarter campaign. Check it out now.

Tune in tomorrow for my favorite ABG episode. If you missed my favorites from 3-5 check them out here, here, and here.

Knew this was coming. With this departure as well as Tim Daly’s, it looks like Private Practice’s days are numbered and the upcoming season starting this fall will more than likely be the last one.

Awkward Black Girl: Countdown To Season 2 **3 Days Away**

We are now 3 days away from Season 2 of Awkward Black Girl and I am counting down my best ABG episodes. Today we are on #3 which I picked because everything I could ever want out of a season finale was in the episode. The episode is of course episode 12, The Decision which was the season finale of Season 1. The episode was great because not only did **Spoiler Alert** J pick white J but there were so many awkward moments that had me cracking up so hard. It also had a nice set up of where season 2 would pick up. Oh and cherry on to is the cameo by one of my fave new rappers, Childish Gambino. You might know him better by his government name, Donald Glover or simply as Troy from Community.

Tomorrow we shall get into my 2nd best ABG episode. If you missed what my #5 and #4 episode were check them out  here and here.

Awkward Black Girl: Countdown to Season 2 **4 Days Away**

4 Days away from the season 2 premiere of ABG and I am counting down my top 5 episodes. It’s been really hard to pick these episodes because there are so many good ones, but #4 goes to ABG episode number 6, The Stapler.

The Stapler is the so funny. It focuses on the aftermath of Nina’s thirsty behind kissing Fred, J’s crush and the anger and rage that J has been feeling because of it. Because of this rage, J blows up at work and is sent to anger management. Again the episode just has so many gems; gems I tell you. I love it because of all the scenes from anger management and it pushed J and white J closer together.

Quotable from the episode – Greg – “I’m here because one of my fellow employees insist on writing me emails in Comic Sans font. I mean last I checked I’m a grown ass man working for a grown ass company, ok.”

Cece – “It’s because I have to use syndrome in a sentence. It makes me feel like I’m putting my Psychology degree to use.” Hahah I feel like Cece all the time in regards to my useless Psych degree lol.

Rock of Ages

image

Rock of Ages is a film based on the hit Broadway musical about a small town girl Sherrie, played by Julianne Hough (Footloose) and city boy Drew (Diego Boneta; 90210), who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and many other 80’s hits.

When I saw the trailer for this movie, I thought this was going to be a disaster. It just looked a mess. So I was definitely going into this with lowered expectations. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed myself. I’m a big 80’s hair metal fan so I just had a wonderful time singing along and dancing to all those hits. The acting wasn’t anything to rave about but some people were clearly better than others. Tom Cruise really went for it with his role here as Stacy Jaxx. He played the part as a mix of Axl Rose and Mr. Rock of Love himself, Brett Michaels. He has definitely won me back with this movie and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Mary J. Blige should keep her day job and Julianne Hough just needs to disappear (although she was better in this movie). If you don’t take this movie too seriously, you will be able to enjoy yourself and have a good time. Check out Rock of Ages in theaters this Friday.

Awkward Black Girl: Countdown to Season 2 **5 DAYS AWAY**

The countdown to the Awkward Black Girl season 2 premiere is on. The show premieres this Thursday, June 14th and to celebrate I am going to countdown my top 5 episodes of season 1 everyday until the season 2 premiere.

#5 – The Stop Sign

The Stop Sign is the first episode of the series and it set the tone for the rest of the season. I love this episode because while not perfect, it shows the potential of the series. It’s also just plain hilarious. There were so many things in this episode that made me cringe and laugh like “Booty Shorts”, fake phone calls , “A”, the lyrics “yes you deserve to die and I hope you burn in hell” (I don’t know why that one especially tickles me).

Stop by tomorrow to see what #4 will be.

New Show Alert: ABC Family’s Bunheads

image

Bunheads is a new show coming to ABC Family from the creator of Gilmore Girls, Amy Sherman-Palladino. The show centers on Michelle (Tony award winner Sutton Foster), a Las Vegas showgirl who impulsively gets married, moves to her new husband’s small hometown, and takes a teaching position at her new mother-in-law’s (Kelly Bishop) dance school.

I watched the pilot and I was in within the first 15 mins. It’s so fantastic. I fell in love instantly. The way the episode ends completely hooked me for the rest of the season. I just want to know what happens now. I was a huge fan of Gilmore Girls so I’ll watch anything from Palladino. The writing here is just as fun and witty as Gilmore and the acting is pretty good. Kelly Bishop, who played the mother and grandmother of the Loreleis, plays the mother in law to Sutton Foster’s Michelle.

Bunheads premieres on ABC Family Monday, June 11th at 9/8c.

New Trailer: Django Unchained

Yessssss!!! The first teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film, Django Unchained was released today. The movie stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz played by Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds, Water For Elephants). Schultz is on the trail of the Brittle brothers, and only needs Django’s help with a promise to free him upon their capture – dead or alive. Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington; Scandal), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

I love Quentin and this movie looks great. He always manages to get the best people in his movies. I usually like all of his movies so this probably won’t be any different. Django Unchained is in theaters this Christmas.
