Best and Worst Looks of The Grammy Awards

Definitely slim pickings when it came to fashion at the Grammy Awards tonight. Here are the best and worst looks of the night.

Best Looks

Jessie J

Love her. I like the dress but the hair is awful. Like I said slim pickings.

Adele

This woman and do no wrong to me. Love her, love her. She looks great. Simple. Elegance

Kelly Rowland

Kelly looks wonderful. Great dress and makeup. The back of her dress which can’t be seen in this pic makes her but look amazing. The dress just fit her really well.

Gwyneth Paltrow (Glee, Country Strong)

I usually hate what she wears but she looked great here. Loved the cut outs on the side and yes she only put her hair up but its something different than her usual straight hair that is down.

Rihanna

She was my best dressed of the night. Some might not agree but she just owned that carpet when she walked on. Its a simple black Armani dress that she helped design with him. Love the shoes. Her makeup looks good too. The only thing I’m not a huge fan of is the hair. She looks a little like Tina Turner/Angela Basset from What’s Love Got To Do With It?

Worst Dressed

Skylar Grey
Esperanza Spaulding
Taylor Swift

Ughh

Robyn

I just can’t with this outfit. Really? I love Robyn but man she needs to hire a stylist.

Fergie

This dress would have been fine if she had something underneath. I don’t even understand what she was thinking with this. It makes no sense.

Nicki Minaj

Nicki tried to show up Lady Gaga from last year’s show. She showed up with some guy dressed as a pope. I guess this wasn’t Nicki it was “Roman,” one of her other personalities.

Grammy Awards 2012

Don’t forget to check out the Grammy Awards tonight on CBS @ 8/7c. LL Cool J is hosting the show. The Red Carpet show on E! is on now. Looking forward to the Whitney Houston tribute.

Safe House(2012)

Denzel Washington does the same generic action flick that he has been pumping out in the past couple of years. That being said it was a good movie just the same ol. Safe House stars Denzel Washington as Tobin Frost, a former CIA agent who went rogue years before. He comes into the hands of the CIA and they hold him in Cape Town, South Africa to get information from him at one of their safe houses. Ryan Reynolds’ character is Matt Weston, keeper of the safe house. When the house is attacked, Weston and Frost go on the run in this action packed, Bourne-esque thriller trying to find out what is really happening.

Denzel Washington is such a great actor. From the very beginning of the film, you can tell he had a really good time playing this role. I think he likes doing the bad guys best. The characters he plays that are slightly to the left of the moral compass always seem to be five steps ahead of everyone and have a look of I’m better than you and I know it. He has that look in this and its fun to watch him mess with Ryan Reynolds’ character and get into his head. The supporting cast is pretty good in this. Vera Farmiga plays an agent who is in charge of getting Washington’s character back to the states and  Brendan Gleeson plays the boss of Reynolds’ character. There isn’t really much for them to do as this movie is all about Reynolds and Washington.

This movie is pretty predictable. I clocked the bad guy about 15 minutes into the movie. They try to throw a red herring at you but aren’t very successful in trying to trick you. The movie gives the audience exactly what they want. Go see this movie. It’s  great popcorn movie and it’s nice counter programming from all the Valentine’s Day stuff that is coming out this weekend.

Safe House is in theaters now.

This Means War(2012)

I will admit, I had very low expectations when I saw the trailer for this. I thought surely this will be an awful movie. I’m glad I was wrong about it. This Means War stars Chris Pine(Princess Diaries 2,Star Trek)  and Tom Hardy(Inception,Warrior) as FDR and Tuck,CIA agents who are partners and best friends until they both start dating the same woman,Lauren, played by Reese Witherspoon(Legally Blonde, Walk The Line). They then start fighting each other in order to win the girl using all of their spy tricks. Lauren enlist the help of her friend Trish (Chelsea Handler) to help her decide between the 2 men.

This movie should tickle the fancy and both men and women this coming Valentines day if you don’t want to get stuck going to that other movie, The Vow. This one is funny, has some good spy action and a lot of the bromance that will appeal to men but the women get all the romance that they want to see. It really is a perfect meld of the two. And there is a really fun chemistry between the whole cast. Had a fun time watching this one.

This Means War is in theater February 17, with a special national preview on Valentine’s Day.

The Walking Dead Marathon

If you have never watched AMC’s The Walking Dead before or if you are like me and have watched a couple of episodes and the show kind of fell by the wayside, you are in luck. AMC will be running a 2-day marathon on Saturday and Sunday of the entire 1st season and of the episodes from the first part of season 2 in order for fans and newbies to catch up before it returns Sunday, February 12th at 10/9c for the 2nd half of season 2. Find the full schedule here.

The Vow: Its Better Than You’d Expect

The worst thing about romantic comedies is always the last 10 – 15 minutes of the movie when the girl or the guy goes and makes some grand gesture to show their love, whether it’s hailing a cab to get you to JFK in 2 seconds in the middle of rush hour traffic or running down the street yelling like a mad person to get the attention of the object of their affection. None of these happen in The Vow to which I am very thankful for.

The Vow is a film starring Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Sherlock Holmes) and Channing Tatum (Step Up, Haywire) as Paige and Leo, a married couple that gets into an accident that puts Paige in a coma. When she wakes up she doesn’t remember her husband or how she came to have the live that was presently living. Leo then tries to win his wife back and make her fall in love with him again.

While this sounds every sappy, clichéd, romantic movies, there was more than that. It had its moments but overall they toned down the over dramatic moments I hate in these types of movies. It was enough though to make 5 out of 6 of my friends that I saw it with whip out the Kleenex. I thoroughly enjoyed myself watching this movie though. I really like Rachel McAdams. She just completely shines in almost everything she does and Channing Tatum’s acting has improved some. Some of the scenes where he is crying and talking about his relationship with his wife were just so heartbreaking. It was just good. But if you feel that his acting wasn’t that great, there are plenty of shirtless scenes to make up for it. (Sidenote: He has such an ugly cry face). The supporting cast was pretty good. Love Jessica Lange (American Horror Story) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park).

I think it’s a good chick flick. Nothing spectacular but if there was a list of movies like this that have come out in the last 2 years, I would put it up there.  But I don’t know if that says that the movie was good or that the romantic movies from the last 2 years have been utter crap.

The Vow is in theaters this Friday.

New ‘Hunger Games’ Trailer

Best and Worst Looks From The Screen Actors Guild Awards

The dresses at the SAGs weren’t as amazing or as  the ones at the Globes but there were still a few standouts and even more disasters.

Best Dressed

Regina King (Southland)

Makeup, color of dress, hair is all perfection. She looks so flawless. Love it.

Emily Blunt (The Adjustment Bureau, The Devil Wears Prada)

This dress isn’t anything super amazing but I love the color on her and she was one of the better dressed at the show.

Octavia Spencer (The Help)

Love this look on her. The hair and makeup are great and she just looks beautiful. She has gotten it right all awards season and I can’t wait to see her looks at the next awards show.

Ashley Simpson

Never thought I would say these words but she looks so great. This is the best I’ve ever seen her look. I love her hair and makeup. The beading on the dress is also really great. It’s simple yet fabulous.

Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn)

Simple red elegance.

Viola Davis (The Help, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close)

This woman has been killing me softly this entire awards season. Simply perfection here. I didn’t think she could get any better than 2 weeks ago at the Globes but here she does it again. Best dressed of the night for me.

Worst Dressed

Nothing needs to be said about these looks. Just look at the picture.

Shailene Woodley (The Descendants, The Secret Life of An American Teenager)
Jenna Ushkowitz (Glee)
Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Takers)

Ok so I’m gonna say something about this one. This looks so cheap and I bet it cost an arm and a leg. I mean what the hell was she thinking. Ughh and is that a wife beater?? WTH?

Kaley Cuoco (The Big Bang Theory)
Lea Michele (Glee)

I just can’t with Lea Michele anymore. She just tries entirely too hard. Her look at the Globes was a mess and too sexy for a girl who can’t pull it off and this one is just the same. I just I can’t anymore with her.

Busy Philipps (Cougar Town)

This makes me sad because I love her but man is this dress ugly. Just really really ugly. Worst dressed of the night.

Postmortem On The Good Wife Episode “Another Ham Sandwich”

***Spoilers Ahead***

OMG OMG OMG!!! That had to have been the best episode of The Good Wife this season. Wendy Scott Carr (Anika Noni Rose) got owned by Peter (Chris Noth) at the end of this episode. One of the most epic scenes. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start from the beginning.

The episode begins with Wendy, Cary (Matt Czuchry), and Dana (Monica Raymund) looking like they had this thing in the bag. Wendy begins by giving instructions to the grand jury and then we head over to Lockhart-Gardner where Diane (Christine Baranski) is about to give the news of Will (Josh Charles) possibly being indicted to the partners. First she tells Alicia (Julianna Margulies), who was still in the dark about what has been happening for the last 2-3 episodes about it. Alicia runs to Will and they have a moment. Can I say I really love these two and I like them together but man the show is juiciest when they are apart.

We then get into the testimonies and they all seem to hurt Will a lot. They all realize that in order to get through this thing, they have to tie Peter to it because if he thinks it will hurt him then he will call it off. Wendy through out what she was hoping was the McDermott case that had come into play in the last episode when it looked like Kalinda was giving Dana information to save Alicia but take down Will. We would soon realize, as would Dana and Wendy, that all of this was just bait used so that they wouldn’t go after Will’s real vulnerability which is Alicia.

Peter and Alicia have a conversation about the grand jury in what was one of the best exchanges of the night. Alicia ask Peter to stop the investigation and it doesn’t go well. They get into a heated exchange and at one point Peter looked like he was going to cry when he asked Alicia about sleeping with Will. At that point is when I yelled at my tv, “Are you kidding me? You slept with hookers and her best friend and you are pissed that she’s been with someone else?” Then Peter spat this out at Alicia, “My god, you have changed,I used to be able to tell when you lied.” Chris Noth and Alicia were giving it this episode. Ughhh it was just soooo goooood. All of their scenes were great. I like their scenes together, there is such a great chemistry there.

After the embarrassment that Will gave Wendy during his testimony, Dana goes after Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) and slaps her after realizing that she was duped from the beginning. They went after Alicia like everyone predicted. Wendy starts leading with some inappropriate questioning about her relationship with Will and the perks she has received from that relationship. I love that Cary tries to stop her, but to no avail. Wendy was on a tirade and Alicia was not having it. She got up in the middle of questioning and when she was told she wasn’t excused and would be held in contempt, Alicia spat out, “Then arrest me.” Uhhhhh it was such a great moment.

The grand jury had common sense though and saw through what Wendy was trying to do. The case completely crumpled there. There was a celebration at Lockhart-Gardner after Will won which had a sweet scene with Diane and Will dancing together. It just made my heart smile. That relationship is one of the great ones that is on this show. The Good Wife does relationships and friendships soooo well and Will and Diane to me are one of the best.

Peter then rightfully dismisses Wendy, who tries to plea to him to continue on with the case against Will. But Peter isn’t having it not after she went after Alicia and couldn’t even get the grand jury in indict. In what might be the best “you have been dismissed” scene ever, Peter tells Wendy, “You’re excused. We’re done. Thank you for your service; my assistant will validate your parking. Get out of my office.” And scene.

I know they need a B plot going on during the episode but I really could have done without the one they had last night. Don’t get me wrong I love me some Alan Cumming and Amy Sedaris but I feel like they just kinda took away a little from the rest of the episode. I’m sad that we won’t be getting another new episode until February 18 but man what a way to go.

The Grey (2012)

Liam Neeson continues his foray into becoming a full blown action star with the new movie, The Grey. This time he plays a sharpshooter whose job is to protect the oil-rig roughnecks from animal attacks as they work. On the way back home, the plane crashes and leaves 6 of the men alive and fighting for their lives. They are in the midst of the freezing Arctic weather and on top of that they are in wolf territory. The movie starts out as a survivalist movie but then kind of spirals out of control into a simple man vs. beast tale.

If you were looking for something more from this movie, you aren’t going to find it. I enjoyed myself while watching. It’s not a scary movie but the constant jolts of the camera, sudden movements and loud sounds made me jumpy. It’s a cheap trick but it worked to keep the action going. There is a scene at the end of the credits but you will live if you don’t see it. I like action star Liam Neeson, but I want the Kinsey Neeson back. Looking at his upcoming movies though, it looks like that isn’t going to be happening anytime soon.

The Grey is in theaters now.
