Argo

Argo is one the best movies I have seen all year. Bold statement? Yes, but it’s true. Argo is the story loosely based on CIA agent Tony Mendez’s account of the rescue of six U.S. diplomats – with help from Canada – from Tehran, Iran during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, there were six Americans who managed to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, Tony comes up with a risky plan using a fake movie to get them safely out of the country.

The film stars Ben Affleck, John Goodman, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, Kyle Chandler, and a million other people (no really, there are literally a million recognizable faces in this movie). This was incredibly tense and caused so much anxiety for me but it was also really funny. Alan Arkin and John Goodman were so great together as Lester Siegel and John Chambers, the Hollywood director and producer who put together the fake movie. The whole cast is wonderful. I mean kudos to the casting director, Lora Kennedy because I loved picking out all the familiar faces.

This is Ben Affleck’s 3rd film as director and he has gotten better and better with every movie. His earlier films were Gone Baby Gone and The Town. I’m proud of him. He has really turned that whole Bennifer debacle around. He has directed and starred  in some good stuff. If you have liked all the other Affleck directing vehicles, then you need to go out and watch this one as well. You definitely won’t regret it. Argo is in theaters now.

In a rare moment of empathy, Rebekah is deeply touched by Stefan and Elena’s devotion to one another. Finally, Pastor Young and the Town Council members begin rounding up the vampires and their supporters, leading to an unexpected tragedy. I am soooooo ready for this return. This is one of my favorite shows and it has been gone for entirely too long.

First Cut Of The Season: CBS Cancels “Made In Jersey”

I didn’t even get a chance to know you Jersey. CBS has cancelled freshman series Made in Jersey, making it the first network to cut a show in this new fall season. The series, which aired on Friday nights, premiered 2 weeks ago to the tune of 7.7 million viewers. This number isn’t terrible for a Friday but the number of people watching in the coveted 18-49 group for advertisers was extremely low. The number only got lower on the 2nd week thus prompting CBS to make the chop. It will be replaced by the reality show Undercover Boss at the beginning of November.

This show was just so-so as I said in a post 2 weeks ago. The only thing that I was excited about was that my man Kristoffer Polaha was going to be in it. So sad. He just can’t catch a break at all. All of his series where he has been a regular in the last 6 years have been cancelled, either after a few episodes or after one season. Hopefully his next show will get picked up and make it or he can just get on an already established show as a new character.

With this cancellation by CBS, Entertainment Weekly has officially started its Fall TV Death Watch. See if your favorite shows will make it by May.

What To Watch: October 10

9/8c – Arrow – CW – Series Premiere. After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell; Hung, Private Practice) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. Back in Starling City, Oliver slowly reconnects with those closest to him, his devoted mother Moira (Susanna Thompson; Cold Case, Kings), beloved sister Thea (Willa Holland; Gossip Girl, The O.C.), and best friend Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell; Pan Am), but struggles with his ex-girlfriend Dinah “Laurel” Lance (Katie Cassidy; Gossip Girl, Melrose Place), who blames him for her sister’s death. Oliver has brought back many new skills from his time on the island and despite the watchful eye of his new bodyguard John Diggle (David Ramsey; Dexter, Blue Bloods), Oliver manages to secretly create the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family and fight the ills of society. As Arrow, Oliver will atone for the past sins of his family while he searches for the personal redemption he needs.

10/9c – Chicago Fire – NBC – Series Premiere. When a fire claims one of their own, there’s plenty of guilt and blame to go around. Lt. Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer; House), in charge of the Truck, tries to carry on, but butts heads with the brash Lt. Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney; The Vampire Diaires) of the Rescue Squad – and each blames the other for their fallen team member. Adding to the turmoil, Casey, unbeknownst to his colleagues, is in the midst of a separation from Hallie (Teri Reeves, Three Rivers).

10/9c – Nashville – ABC – Series Premiere. Chart-topping Rayna James (Connie Britton; Friday Night Lights, American Horror Story) is a country legend who’s had a career any singer would envy, though lately her popularity is starting to wane. Fans still line up to get her autograph, but she’s not packing the arenas like she used to. Rayna’s record label thinks a concert tour, opening for up-and-comer Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere; Heroes, Guiding Light), the young and sexy future of country music, is just what Rayna needs. But scheming Juliette can’t wait to steal Rayna’s spotlight. Sharing a stage with that disrespectful, untalented, little vixen is the last thing Rayna wants to do, which sets up a power struggle for popularity.

NBC postpones season 4 premiere of ‘Community’

Oh NBC. They just don’t know what to do with themselves. Their whole schedule is just a disaster.

Yay more Mindy Kaling. Glad they are giving it chance because I want to see where they take this show the rest of the season.

What To Watch: October 8

The CW premieres officially start this week and I for one couldn’t be more excited (The Vampire Diaries on Thursday ahhhhhhhhh). Here is what premieres tonight.

8/7c – CW – 90210 – Season 5 Premiere. Naomi and Max make some big plans that go horribly awry when they both get arrested and land in jail. Liam is forced to put The Offshore up for sale to pay off Vanessa and buy out her $200,000 interest in Liam’s movie contract. Navid approaches Liam about becoming his business partner. Teddy is overwhelmed by Silver’s request to father her baby. Adrianna, unaware Dixon has gotten into a life-threatening accident, has an unforgettable evening in Las Vegas with a handsome stranger, Taylor, after she vows to get over Dixon and move on with her life. Annie asks Ade to return to Los Angeles to be with an unconscious Dixon, and the two girls decide to move into the beach house together. This show is so deliciously ridiculous and I just love every minute of it. I seem to have a love for the “evil” people on most of the shows I watch so of course AnnaLynne McCord’s Naomi is my favorite.

9/8c – CW – Gossip Girl – 6th and Final Season Premiere. After a brief encounter abroad, Chuck and Blair make a promise to each other about their relationship, which leaves them once again apart. Dan, with some help from an unlikely ally, Georgina, is writing a scathing tell-all book that can only mean trouble. As the sole head of The Spectator, Nate is making his own decisions and is ready to go up against Gossip Girl. As word spreads that Serena is missing, the gang bands together to find her and are shocked by what they find. This show has been downhill for a long time and should have ended about 2 seasons ago. Glad it’s ending now though. I mean it’s come to the point where I have this show on mute and only look to see what they are wearing. This show and Revenge have the best costume designers. I mean the clothes are just so amazing.

9/8c – TV One – Life After – Season 4 Premiere. Exploring the turning point in celebrities’ careers that altered their lives forever, the half-hour series highlights these moments from the point of view of the celebrity and those in their inner circle. In each episode, a celebrity reveals the stories behind the transformative events in their life, and the ways in which they evolved from these experiences.
